Three men have been charged in connection with a foiled armed robbery at the home of a businessman in Glounthaune in Co. Cork on Sunday night.

The accused have all appeared in court and have been remanded in custody until next week.

46-year old Niall Fitzpatrick of Corrin Close, The Glen, Vincent Murray of Glandore Park, Knocknaheeny and Trevor O'Sullivan of Curraheen Drive, Bishopstown - both aged 37 - are all charged in relation to the offence.

They are charged with entering the home of Pat Glavin at Rougrane in Glanmire as a trespasser with intent to commit an arrestable offence, namely theft, on August 11th.

Each of the accused made no reply after caution.

Gardai objected to bail for all three and the judge refused bail due to the nature and seriousness of the offence and the possibility of further serious offences being committed.

It carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years if convicted. The three were remanded in custody to appear again in court on August 21st.
