A consultant at the Mater Hospital in Dublin is warning that any future Health Service Executive (HSE) budget cuts will result in cuts to services.
Earlier this month the HSE projected a budget deficit of €104 million for the year.
Health economist Dr. Brendan McElroy has previously said the HSE could be forced to close wards, cancel operations and change medical card eligibility to combat its deficit.
The HSE says hospitals and staff have already been asked to find extra areas where costs can be cut.
While it is reported that the Chief Financial Officer of the HSE, Tom Byrne, has warned that the full savings from the Haddington Road agreement will be time delayed.
Consultant Opthamologist at the Mater Hospital David Keegan spoke to Breakfast here on Newstalk.
He says although cuts have already been made, further service cuts are inevitable.
