Police in Co Antrim are investigating a paramilitary-style assault in which a man was attacked with baseball bats and a sledgehammer.

It happened just before 9.00pm last night in Rosebrook Avenue in Carrickfergus.

Four masked men forced their way into a house and assaulted the 39-year-old man.

He was taken to hospital, and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Detective Constable Michael Sweeney of the PSNI is appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
