Closing speeches are under way in the trial of a man accused of murdering his partner’s 61-year-old mother at the home they shared in Rathfarnham in Dublin in May 2017.

Kieran Greene is joined in the dock by three others, who have pleaded not guilty to impeding his apprehension or prosecution.

It has been six weeks since Roisin Lacey SC opened the prosecution's case to the jurors, and today she began her closing address to them.

She reminded them of how Patricia O’Connor died – blunt force trauma to the head from at least three blows.

She also spoke about the lack of forensic evidence in the house where it’s alleged to have happened, and the car Kieran Greene told gardaí he used to transport her body to Wexford, where he’s alleged to have dumped her in a shallow grave.

Mr Greene initially told gardaí he used bleach and a scraper to clean up blood in the house, and Ms Lacey said he also told them he got rid of the car’s boot liner.

She dismissed his initial claims of self-defence, and told the jurors no defensive wounds were found on Ms O’Connor.

Three others, including Ms O’Connor’s daughter Louise, granddaughter Stephanie, and Stephanie’s father Keith Johnston are also on trial accused of impeding Mr Greene’s apprehension or prosecution.

Ms Lacey is likely to focus on her case against those when the trial resumes tomorrow morning.
