It is understood Dublin City Council is considering altering the appearance of the concrete flood defence sea wall under construction along one of Dublin's most iconic routeways.

Locals in Clontarf have expressed concern over the height and appearance of the wall - which is being built as part of a two kilometre cycle path from the Wooden Bridge to Causeway Road.

Some residents are concerned about restricted views of Bull Island nature sanctuary and the coast due to the height of the wall.

It will be up to one metre tall at its highest point.

Independent Senator Averil Power says locals in the area aren't happy about the height of the wall.

However, the Council says the wall is required to protect against coastal flooding in the area.

It adds that the final finish for the wall is under consideration at the moment.

A meeting between the Council and public representatives will take place tomorrow.

Plans for the project can be viewed here
