€5.2 million worth of cigarettes have been seized in Slane, Co Meath.

Revenue and gardaí recovered the ten million American Legend brand cigarettes from a container, that had travelled from Vietnam, via Singapore and Rotterdam, arriving into Dublin Port last Thursday.

They were described on the manifest them as furniture.

The ten million cigarettes represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of around €4.2 million.
