Child benefit could soon be taxed under new proposals being put to government.
The recommendation is part of a report from an expert group who say the move could slash €345 million a year of the social welfare bill.
If the proposals outlined within the Mangan report are adopted, up to 400,000 families could be hit with a tax of either 20 or 41 per cent on their monthly payment.
