The selfie train continues to roll on, with some people going to increasingly extreme lengths to get the perfect shot. This latest stunt takes us to one of the world’s most recognisable locations.
Lee Thompson, 31, the founder of an online travel agency, became the first man to immortalise Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer in selfie form.
After convincing the Brazilian tourist board to give the stunt the green light, he climbed the perilous stairwell within the monument, and with the help of other climbers was able to stand atop its head.
In a blog post, Thompson describes the experience:
“As I popped my head out of the hole in Jesus’ crown, I was in total and utter awe as my eyes met with a vast panorama that quite literally took my breath away. Talk about a religious experience! I’ve never been afraid of heights or tight spaces, but experiencing acrophobia, claustrophobia and profound awe at the same time was something truly remarkable.”
