Daniel Radcliffe is playing a different sort of Rockstar in his next film - to be more specific, he's starring as Sam Houser, the British game designer behind the hugely popular Grand Theft Auto series and its development company Rockstar.
The 90-minute drama The Gamechangers is set to premiere on BBC Two on September 15th, and the trailer for the film has been released today.
The Gamechangers explores the conflict between Rockstar - whose violent games caused a 'moral panic' in the late 1990s and early 2000s, as well being a massive commercial and critical success - and Christian lawyer Jack Thompson. Thompson (played by Bill Paxton here) is a controversial figure in the gaming community for his persistent (but mostly unsuccessful) efforts to stop the meteoric rise of GTA and other violent video games.
BBC themselves describe it as a conflict "between the creative genius behind the game and a self-styled crusader for American morality, [that] escalated into a fight for the hearts, minds and freedoms of an entire gaming generation".
The drama has not been authorised by the GTA creators, but for video game fans it looks like it will be a rare opportunity to see the 'behind the scenes' world of game development dramatised and broadcast to a wide audience.
