A champion Irish greyhound has tested positive for a cocaine-like prohibited substance.

Clonbrien Hero - winner of the prestigious Laurels race and trained by Graham Holland - showed traces of benzoylecgonine in three samples.

It is a main compound used to detect cocaine use.

The tests were carried out from samples at Cork Greyhound Stadium in June & July.

The Irish Greyhound Board - which published the test results on its website yesterday - has this morning released a statement in response to the 'adverse findings'.

The board says: "IGB does not comment on individual cases which have been referred to the Control Committee and which may proceed to investigation.

"Decisions of the Control Committee may also be appealed."

The board adds that it publishes adverse test results as part of its commitment to 'greater transparency' in the area of anti-doping.
