Contrary to earlier reports, Jericho the lion -brother of Cecil - is alive and well.
Reuters have spoken to Brent Stapelkamp of the Hwange Lion Research Project, who says "he looks alive and well to me as far as I can tell." Stapelkamp is able to monitor Jericho via a GPS locator.
"When I heard that report, I had a look on the computer and his movements look regular. He sent a GPS point from his collar from 8:06 p.m. (02:06 p.m. EDT). Everything looks fine," he said.
The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force earlier wrote on Facebook: "It is with huge disgust and sadness that we have just been informed that Jericho, Cecil's brother has been killed at 4pm today.
"We are absolutely heart broken."
The murder of Cecil by US dentist Walter Palmer caused outrage earlier this week.
Mr Palmer allegedly paid park guides $50,000 to kill the lion, who was a hugely popular attraction at the Hwange National Park.
More than 140,000 signatures have been gathered for a bid to send the Minnesota dentist to Zimbabwe to face justice.
The White House has said it will review the petition.
