A Dublin Councillor says he believes more armed gardai are needed on the streets of the capital to prevent cash-in-transit van robberies.
His comments come as gardai are continuing to investigate an armed robbery of a cash in transit van in Tyrrelstown yesterday afternoon.
The incident happened at around 3pm when two men approached a security man who was delivering money and demanded cash.
It is believed one of the suspects was carrying a fire arm and they made off with a substantial sum of cash.
No one was injured during the incident.
The suspects made their getaway in a waiting blue-coloured car. The vehicle was later found burnt out in Hollystown.
No arrests have been made and gardai are continuing to investigate the incident.
Fianna Fáil Dublin-West Councillor David McGuinness explains.
