New rules set to be introduced in Dublin City Centre will see buskers having to pay to perform on the city streets and set time limits on their performances.

According to the Irish Times, if the new laws are introduced, buskers will be banned from playing in Templebar but will be able to play until 1am on Grafton Street.

The council has stated that they have seen a significant increase in the amount of complaints about buskers from the public and businesses.

The complaints apparently related to loud continuous noise, obstruction of premises and disturbing city residents at night.

There were also complaints in relation to performers seeking donations.

Under the new laws, all performers will have to pay a €30 annual charge while those with amplifiers would have to pay an extra €60.

No busking will be allowed in front of the GPO or in Templebar. Performers can only stay in one spot for two hour and must move if they want to continue performing.

City councillors will be asked to approve the laws next week which could come into force in the New Year if ratified.
