The British man accused of murdering two Indonesian women in Hong Kong has appeared in court. Investment banker Rurik Jutting (29) arrived at Eastern Magistrates Court on Hong Kong Island in a prison van.
He sat in court for the 10-minute hearing wearing a black sweat shirt with a New York logo on the front.
He listened attentively to proceedings, turning his head from his lawyer to the magistrate as the case was discussed.
The magistrate agreed to a two-week adjournment in proceedings pending the results of two psychiatric reports on Mr Jutting's fitness to plea. He has not yet entered a plea.
His barrister, Tim Parker, also requested copies of police interviews with Mr Jutting. Mr Parker added that his client had not ruled out a reconstruction of the alleged crimes.
"No reconstruction yet, not no reconstruction at all." Mr Parker said.
Mr Jutting was asked whether he understood the two-week adjournment until November 24th.
"I do," he replied. He was seen smiling as he left the court in the prison van.
The banker was arrested on November 1st after the bodies of two women were discovered at his apartment in Hong Kong's Wan Chai district.
Officers arrived at the 31st-floor flat after receiving a call from the suspect.
They discovered the body of Seneng Mujiasih (29), also known as Jesse Lorena, lying naked in the living room with knife wounds to her neck and backside.
Eight hours later, at about noon on Saturday, police widened the forensic examination of the apartment and made the second discovery.
The body of the second woman, Sumarti Ningsih (25) was found in a suitcase on the apartment's balcony. It had been there for several days.
Police also found a small amount of cocaine and a 12-inch knife in the flat. Mr Jutting was remanded in custody at a local prison to reappear on November 24th.
