Tributes are being paid to a boy (5) who drowned in north-west Dublin.

The incident happened at an artificial lake near his home in the Belgree Lawns area of Tyrellstown.

The boy was found in the water after wandering off from his home at around 9:30am this morning.

He was rushed to Temple Street Children's Hospital but was pronounced dead. A post mortem is due to be carried out.

Gardai are describing his death as a terrible accident. Fingal County Council has offered its sympathies to the family.
