The army bomb disposal team was called out to deal with a suspect device at a public park in Cork City earlier.
A cordon was put in place for public safety when the device was discovered at the park in the Boreenmanna area of the city just before 1 o'clock this afternoon.
The viable explosive device was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion and the scene was declared safe at 1 o'clock.

Items of an evidential nature were handed over to the Gardaí to assist them with their investigation.
