A man has been arrested in Kilkenny by gardaí investigating what's believed to be a suspect device in the city.

Officers are at the scene of an incident this morning at 'Butterslip' between High Street and Kieran Street.

A suspect device is believed to be at the scene.

The army's bomb disposal unit is on the way.

High Street is closed both ways, between the Vicar St and Patrick St junctions.

In a follow-up search, a man in his late 50s was arrested.

He's being held at Kilkenny Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.
