Police in the UK have said a body found in Nottinghamshire is that of missing 13-year-old Amber Peat.

Tributes have been paid to the schoolgirl who left her home in Mansfield on Saturday evening and was found less than a mile from her home.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Superintendent Matthew McFarlane said Amber was discovered by two police officers searching an area off Westfield Lane.

Her body was out of sight and would not have been seen by anyone nearby, he said.

Supt McFarlane added: "Sadly this was not the outcome that any of us were hoping for.

"Amber's mum and stepdad, Kelly and Danny, would like to say that they were particularly touched by the amazing support they received from the community."

The 13-year-old left home at around 5.30pm on Saturday after a "minor disagreement" over chores.

Around 400 officers were involved in the search, and detectives said they are not treating her death as suspicious.

Kelly and Danny Peat said in a statement: "She was never happier than when reading to her younger sisters and being surrounded by her family.

"We will always be grateful for our last family holiday with our beautiful daughter. We will always miss her."

Among those leaving flowers was Amber's best friend, 12-year-old Rianna Richards.

She told Sky News: "I saw Amber before she went on holiday and she seemed fine.

"She didn't seem worried or anything like that - she didn't seem to have anything bad on her mind.

"She was just normal. I can’t believe what’s happening."

Her mother Sharon added: "I don't know what to think. It's strange.

"Everything that's happened in the last few days is just so sad. Amber was a happy girl."

The family had just returned from a holiday in Holywell Bay in Cornwall, which they described as "fantastic".

Amber's parents said she walked out after refusing to clean a cool box used to store food on their holiday.

Mike Smith, the principal at the Queen Elizabeth's Academy where Amber was a Year 8 pupil, described her as an "academically bright" girl who loved singing and dancing.
