After a five-week run at the site of an abandoned outdoor swimming pool in in Weston-Super-Mare in south-west England, Banksy's 'Dismaland' is being dismantled and shipped to Calais, France.

A post on the Dismaland website reads, "All the timber and fixtures from Dismaland are being sent to the ‘jungle’ refugee camp near Calais to build shelters. No online tickets will be available."

The park is now closed, and workers began dismantling its temporary structures yesterday.

Some 5,000 displaced people are currently living in the 'jungle camp' in Calais - the post on the artist's website includes an image of Dismaland's palace superimposed on a photo of the camp.

Model boats full of migrants and coast patrol boats featured among the 50 plus instillations on the site.

Only 4,000 people per-day were allowed into the park - tickets were sold online by touts for as much as €1,350.

Local officials say that the attraction brought 150,000 visitors to the seaside town - it is estimated that this was worth €27m to the local economy.

Banksy described the inspiration behind the project during an interview with the Sunday Times:

"This is not a street art show. It’s modelled on those failed Christmas parks that pop up every December – where they stick some antlers on an Alsatian dog and spray fake snow on a skip.

“This is an art show for the 99% who’d rather be at Alton Towers.”
