At least 50 people in Palestine have died following Israeli airstrikes on Gaza overnight, according to medical sources in the area.

The Israeli army said it has killed two Hamas fighters and attacked “dozens” of the armed group’s targets.

It's also reported five others died after a mosque in the West Bank was hit.

Al Jazeera reported a popular café in Khan Younis was hit by the raid, while another strike hit a restaurant and market area.

Plastic reconstruction surgeon Professor Ghassan Abu Sitta is in Gaza and said health facilities are overwhelmed.

“There’s around 70 patients with over 40% body surface areas burned that need dressings changed every second day, but we’ve now run out,” he said.

Israel has warned those still in north Gaza should move south as they plan to increase its attacks on the area.

Yesterday, the border between southern Gaza and Egypt was reopened to allow aid convoys in.

Ireland announced during the week €13 million in additional funding for humanitarian assistance for Palestinians.

People have been gathering at the Rafah crossing to flee the conflict, including Palestinian-American Suzanne Bassio.

“This is the fourth time we came to the border – the first time we came it was Tuesday and they bombed it when we were here,” she said.

“Of course, I was horrified, I was so scared because the bomb came just a few metres away from us.”
