Man arrested on suspicion of arson after fire at Monaghan garda station

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a Monaghan garda station this week.

Emyvale Garda Station in County Monaghan was seriously damaged after the blaze took hold in the early hours of Monday morning.

There was nobody inside at the time.

Yesterday, investigating gardaí carried out two searches in Emyvale and third in the Letterkenny area of Donegal.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of arson in Donegal. He is being held at Letterkenny Garda Station where he will be interviewed by Monaghan gardaí.

Investigators are calling for witnesses or anyone who noticed anything suspicious near the garda station between the hours of 3am and 5:30am on Monday to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to drivers who were in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage.
