Gardaí are investigating after the badly mutilated body of a dog was discovered on a Meath beach yesterday.

The Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) is urging anyone with any information on what happened to come forward.

Reports suggest the American Pitbull Terrier was found badly mutilated and tied to a barrier in the Laytown area.

A Garda spokesperson said investigators are liaising with the Meath Dog Warden and the ISPCA on the matter.

An ISPCA spokesperson said: “The ISPCA is aware of the discovery of a dog’s body in Laytown, Co. Meath yesterday.

“The ISPCA Inspectorate is in contact with Gardaí and encourages anyone with information to please come forward and contact the Gardai or the ISPCA as soon as possible.”
