At least 50 arrests have been made and three police officers were injured during an anti-capitalist protest in central London last night.

Thousands of demonstrators took part in the Million Mask March - organised by the Anonymous group - which began at Trafalgar Square, before winding down to Whitehall.

At one point a police car was set on fire, windows were smashed and cones and fireworks were thrown at police horses.

UK police had warned about the possibility of violence.

Campaigners chanted in small groups, with many carrying placards reading: "One solution: Revolution".

Reports say some took an alternate route towards Buckingham Palace, where protesters threw missiles such as cones and fireworks at police horses.

Three police officers were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Nearly 20,000 people said on Facebook they would attend the protest.
