The annual Wolfe Tone Commemoration took place in Co Kildare earlier today.

The Fianna Fáil President gave the annual oration at the ceremony at Tone's grave in Bodenstown.

Micheál Martin also laid a wreath during the commemoration.

The annual event is held to mark October 18th, 1791 - the day that the Society of United Irishmen was formed in Belfast. Fianna Fáil explains that the group's members "were the first modern separatist group on this island and their progressive and egalitarian spirit remains a strong force in the Irish Republican tradition".
