Almost 40,000 women took part in Dublin Women's Mini Marathon today

The severe weather conditions didn't deter the thousands of athletes from participating in two marathon events in Dublin and Cork.

Almost forty thousand runners are taking part in the Women's Mini Marathon in Dublin, which kicked off at 2pm.

Maria McCambridge has already been announced as the winner with a time of 34.03.

The Cork marathon was won by Cillian O'Leary, while Nollaig Hunter was the first woman across the finish line.

The Women's Mini Marathon raises millions for good causes every year.

2,000 of the participants were walking, jogging and running to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society.

Head of Fundraising with the Irish Cancer Society, Mark Mellett, says the Mini Marathon is also a great way to for charities to build awareness:
