Alan Shatter to donate €70,000 severance payment to charity

Former Justice Minister Alan Shatter has announced that he will be donating his €70,000 severance package cto harity.

Speaking on the plinth at Leinster House earlier this afternoon, Mr Shatter said that he took time to reflect on his decision before contacting Jack and Jill founder, Jonathan Irwin last night to discuss his plan.

Mr Shatter also said he has no plans to resign from the Dáil.

Upon the announcement, the Taoiseach said "nobody could complain" about who will benefit from Alan Shatter's severance pay after previously calling on his colleague to "do the right thing" and return the payments.

Enda Kenny, who had called on Alan Shatter to turn down the money, says the Dublin South TD is not benefiting himself from his severance entitlement.
