A 61-year-old man has been seriously injured in a traffic accident in Co Galway.

He was the driver of a car which collided with another vehicle at Creagh on the Athlone Road in Ballinasloe at around 9 o'clock last night.

He is being treated in Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

A 21-year-man who was driving the other car involved in the crash was uninjured.

The road is currently closed for a Forensic Collision examination and diversions are in place.
