A school in the United States has asked a five year old student to sign a contract promising not to commit suicide or harm others, after“she drew something that resembled a gun” and “pointed a crayon at another student and said ‘pew, pew!’”, according to Elizabeth’s mother.

The five year old was sent home from the kindergarten, in Mobile, Alabama, but not until school officials had made her complete a questionnaire on her mental health, evaluating her for suicidal thoughts. The school then had Elizabeth sign a contract, saying she promised she would contact an adult if she found herself considering suicide or homicide she was to contact an adult.

Elizabeth’s mother told NBC that her daughter wouldn't recognise most of the words on the contract, and that Elizabeth subsequently asked her parents what suicide is.

'Most of these words on here, she's never heard in her life," Elizabeth's mother said.

'This isn't right. She's 5-years-old.'

In Alabama it is illegal for minors to sign contracts.

Elizabeth's mother told NBC that school officials recommended the 5-year-old see a psychiatrist. Elizabeth’s mother refused.
