300 new jobs - some of them available straight away - have been announced for Dublin.

Technology company Sage is creating the positions in sales, marketing and services at a new European centre in Sandyford.

The company - which provides payroll solutions, payments and business accounting - already has a 250 strong workforce in Dublin.

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Rathdown Alan Shatter welcomed the announcement, saying “jobs growth is a vital ingredient to our securing the recovery. This will further boost employment opportunities for those who live in Dublin Rathdown and across South Dublin generally; and further add to the vibrancy and prestige of Sandyford Business Park as a technology centre of excellence.

“I wish the company and its new employees every success and welcome them to Sandyford," he added.

Speaking at the announcement, Enda Kenny said "the jobs created here by Sage after deciding to locate your new European Customer Business Centre in Ireland will be a huge boost to our national mission of securing and embedding the recovery".

Chief Executive of Sage, Stephen Kelly, says Dublin won out from a total of 12 European cities looked at for the investment, which is supported by IDA Ireland:
