Comedian and actor Tracy Morgan is in a critical condition following a traffic accident in New Jersey early on Saturday morning. One person was killed in the accident, while seven have been hospitalised with injuries.

The former star of the hit comedy 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live was involved in a six vehicle crash while travelling in a limo bus. The limo bus overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike.

"The limo bus is the only vehicle that overturned," Sgt. Gregory Williams of the New Jersey State Police told CNN.

"Looks like one of the tractor-trailers may have rear-ended that limo bus, but that's preliminary at this time."

Williams also said he does not believe alcohol played a part in the accident.
