250% rise in calls to pest control firm over rat infestations

There has been a 250% spike in calls to one pest control company looking for help with rat infestations.

It says they are sneaking into homes to get shelter from the bad weather.

There are no weather warnings from Met Eireann today, with hopes that the worst of the wet weather may now be over.

But widespread showers have been forecast today, with some heavy or prolonged in places and isolated thunderstorms. However some sunny spells are also on the cards.

Tonight is set to be cold with further showers, especially in south-western and western areas.

It is believed many of the rats living along riverbanks and canals of the capital have been flooded out of their burrows, with the areas of Rathmines and Terenure said to be worst-hit.
