The Justice Minister has confirmed 20,000 people have now applied to join An Garda Síochána.
The recruitment drive got underway last month and the closing date for receipt of applications is midnight on Thursday the 9th of January.
The Minister says he is greatly encouraged by the response to the recruitment campaign.
The Minister says “I would like to remind potential applicants that the closing date for receipt of applications is midnight on the 9 January 2014 (next Thursday), and I would strongly encourage all those interested in joining the Garda force to submit their application by that date if they haven't already done so”.
People can apply through the Public Appointments Service (PAS) through their website www.publicjobs.ie
Meanwhile, according to the Immigrant Council of Ireland, confirmation that over 20,000 applicants have been received for the current Garda recruitment drive is to be welcomed and shows that there is now a real opportunity to deliver a force which reflects the communities which it serves.
