Ciara Kelly says now's the time for anyone who has missed any '100 Days of Walking' days to jump back on board.

Today marks day 50 and the halfway point of this year's Newstalk Breakfast campaign.

Thousands of people across the country have committed to taking a 30-minute walk every day for the first 100 days of the year.

Ciara's in Galway today for a special walk to mark the halfway point of this year's efforts.

However, she told The Anton Savage Show today is a perfect opportunity for anyone feeling guilty about missing a few days to start walking again.

She said: “I think we should give everyone an amnesty from today. If you’ve messed up or missed a few days… jump back on board.

"There are 50 days of walking, which is fine for people to jump back on board - we’d be delighted to have them.”

Ciara said a half-hour walk is a "gift to give yourself", even when the weather outside may not be particulary inviting.

She said: “If I don’t go out, I find the darkness and miserableness is worse.

"Whereas if I do get out and get blown asunder or rained out of it… when I come back, I feel better. I feel like I’ve done one good thing with my day.

"I only do this because it does something for me. When I start the new year, I find getting out and making myself walk every day lifts me and gets me through the January slump in a way that nothing else does."

She said getting to day 100 does bring a "huge sense of achievement" given the "tribe of people" around the country committed to the same goal.

However, she said the walk itself is something to enjoy every day.
