New figures published by Unite and Mandate show that one-in-ten people here suffer food poverty.
The trade union's are calling on the Government to increase the minimum wage as new research shows that "in-work poverty" is on the rise.
They also want an 'Emergency Relief Budget' in the New Year to start reversing cuts to low-income groups.
Unions are seeking immediate aid to organisations providing food assistance to help them to cope with the pre-Christmas demand on their services.
UNITE regional spokesperson Jimmy Kelly said that the survey defines food poverty as, "an inability to have a meal in the last week due to a lack of money."
