Samsung unveiled the much anticipated Galaxy S5 last night at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

As with every new high-end phone, there was a lot of speculation and rumour surrounding the spec and design of the next Galaxy S device.

The S5 has a 5.1-inch screen, making it slightly larger than the S4 and an incredibly large battery, which Samsung have said will have enough power to stream 12 hours of video.

Impressive stuff.

The phone is also feature heavy with sensors to monitor the user’s heart rate and read fingerprints.

The fingerprint reader is interesting on two levels as firstly, it allows the owner unlock their phone without the need to draw a pattern on the screen and secondly, some websites will recognise the device and allow the user to complete payment for their online shopping via PayPal with their fingerprint rather than passwords.

Internally the S5 has a 2.5GHz Quad Core processor, 2GB RAM and either 16 or 32GB internal memory, with the option of boosting with a microSD card to 128GB. The phone has a 16MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera.

Along with the two new smart-watches announced earlier this week, Samsung will also release a new device called the Gear Fitness.

Gear Fitness has a stunning 1.84-inch curved screen which sits very comfortably on the wrist. The device will connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth and is both dust and water resistant.

The function of the band is to monitor paces, exercise, heart-rate and sleep patterns of the user.

Gear Fitness will also receive notifications from the paired phone including texts, emails, calls and other 3rd party applications.

The S5 is set to hit stores in April.

Pricing information for both devices is set to follow shortly.
