Homeowners who have not paid their Household Charge or Local Property Tax (LPT) are being given a reprieve. The Revenue Commissioners is offering people a final opportunity to pay the fees before a nationwide compliance programme is launched.

Homeowners with outstanding charges have until March 31st to avoid facing interest and penalties.

Revenue say interest will be charged on outstanding local property taxes after the end of March at the rate of 0.0219% per day from the date the tax was due.

These due dates were July 1st 2013 - in respect of the 2013 LPT and Household Charge - or January 1st 2014, in respect of this year's LPT.

Revenue says interest will also apply where additional tax becomes payable in cases where a property was under-valued.

It adds that a "mandatory deduction from wages and occupational pensions of unpaid Household Charge - including interest - will start in April for those who have not paid the €200 liability".

People with concerns are being advised to contact Revenue at 1890-200-255 or www.revenue.ie.
