A receiver has been appointed to the struggling fashion chain A Wear. All of its branches are closed today.

A spokesman for the receiver says a decision will be made tonight how many of them will re-open.

It is understood that all loss-making outlets will be shut. The spokesman said he had no indication of how many will be re-opened.

On October 8th, an examiner was appointed to the 31-strong chain to try and find a buyer and put the business to put it on a sustainable footing.

In a statement earlier, receiver Ken Fennell says sales had not met targets and no viable investment proposal was forthcoming.

He said the stores will remain open for the moment but it is inevitable that some shops will close. It is hoped the business can be sold as a going concern.

A Wear employs about 360 people across 31 Irish shops and nine UK stores - 117 of them are full time staff.
