The President of Ireland Michael D Higgins has launched his own Facebook page.

Called 'President of Ireland / Uachtarán na hÉireann', it will feature the latest news, photographs, videos and speeches from the president.

Áras an Uachtaráin says Facebook users who 'like' the page will receive updates about the president's work through their news feed.

While another Facebook page, www.facebook.com/ArasAnUachtarain, will provide regular news about the Áras itself and its history.

The launch of a Facebook page is the latest addition to the president's social media strategy.

Earlier this year, President Higgins launched a Twitter account.

The president also uses Soundcloud for recordings of speeches and YouTube for videos.

President Higgins is also starting an Instagram account that will provide a regular stream of photos.

Áras an Uachtaráin says all of these platforms are integrated into the president's website.
