It was one of the first modern smartwatches when it launched on Kickstarter in 2012, but the fate of Pebble was uncertain when it was recently bought by competitor Fitbit after it filed for insolvency earlier this month.
The remaining few Pebble users were worried about what would happen to their smartwatches, whether support for them would continue. Now Fitbit has confirmed the Pebble line up until at least the start of 2018.
Third party app support will probably be killed off soon, as Fitbit said it wants to take Pebble’s dependence on third party apps around the cloud and other functions back in-house.
Jon Barlow, who previously was part of Pebble's development team, said "Pebble developers are welcome to keep creating and updating apps. Pebble users are free to keep enjoying their watches."
While not attracting the huge audience it thought it would, Pebble still has a passionate fanbase built around it which Fitbit will want to keep happy for the time being, before probably trying to move them over to their own series of fitness trackers and smart devices.
