Dublin is getting 500 extra student beds, as Dubai’s Global Student Accommodation (GSA) expands its presence in the capital. The newly-announced Gardiner Street accommodation is expected to be ready for September 2017.

GSA is investing €60 million into the seven-storey student facility, in partnership with Carrowmore Property. Carrowmore will take care of construction.

The new Gardiner Street buildings will join GSA’s proposed 400-bedroom complex facility in Mill Street on Dublin’s Southside.

Both projects fall under GSA’s agreement with Chicago equity firm Harrison Street to invest €250 million into student accommodation in Dublin over the next five years.

With almost 500 Gardiner Street flats up for grabs, GSA is hoping to primarily accommodate students from the Dublin Institute of Technology’s Bolton Street campus and Trinity College Dublin.

The Mill Street venture will incorporate shops, a restaurant and office space.

As the student housing crisis rumbles on, news arrived last week that planning permission had been granted for a 374 bedroom student housing scheme in Summerhill.

McAleer and Rushe signed a deal with Threesixty Developments to have that facility ready for the 2018 academic year.

Threesixty is also in the process of constructing €40 million worth of student accommodation in the Liberties.

Meanwhile, Trinity has been given the nod to develop 278 student flats on Pearse Street, which will involved the demolition of Oisin House.
