An American eyeglass company have devised a new scheme to help provide more people with cheaper optical care.

Warby Parker's 'buy-a-pair, give-a-pair' donation programme means that every time someone buys a pair, the company donates a pair of specs to people in need all over the world.

According to co-founder David Gilboa, the aim of the company is to turn “a $65 billion industry that had been ripping consumers off for decades … by creating our own vertically integrated brand.”

The venture is similar in operation to Toms’ shoes “one for one” concept, which was launched to provide children in need with a pair of free shoes on every sale made by the company. As a result of Warby Parker’s scheme, the company can sell glasses for $95 that, according to techonomy.com, would ordinarily sell for $500-$600.
