Eircom is to offer a new TV service to rival the likes of UPC and Sky. eVision claims to offer significantly lower prices than the competition.

The company says this represents greater choice for Irish customers who, until now, have only had the option of more expensive TV packages.

It offers customers 34 channels, including all the Irish channels for €10 a month, with the service delivered through the Eircom broadband service.

It is also offering channels in a second or third room, using a multiroom box, for €5 per month per room.

The service comes with a eVision+ set-top box and includes features such as the ability to pause and rewind live TV and the ability to record two channels at the same time.

Herb Hribar is CEO of Eircom Group. "Consumers in Ireland are paying too much for TV. We are changing that by delivering the most attractive offer in the market. We've listened to our customers and we are giving them exactly what they are looking for" he said.

Kevin White, managing director of Eircom consumer, added it will "fundamentally change the television landscape in Ireland".
