Chancellor George Osborne is set to announce Britain’s ambition to become a leader in the world of driverless cars. Osborne will discuss the issue whilst making his budget statement on Wednesday.

Trials of driverless cars will begin on local roads in the UK later this year. The cars will then be tested on motorways, with the aim of being widely used by 2020.

Osborne has said that the introduction of driverless cars in Britain could boost UK jobs and productivity. He's expected to propose an end to regulations that keep the driverless cars off motorways.

The Treasury has said that driverless cars, which can alert motorists to accidents and traffic jams, could prevent 95% of crashes.
