Supermarket Aldi's pledged to put staff wages up to a minimum of €11.50 an hour from next February.

That means an increase of 4.5% on the entry-level pay for Store Assistants and 10% for Stock Assistants and Caretakers, who will benefit most from the new rate.

The company says employees at Aldi stores in Ireland already earn up to €13.25 per hour.

The statutory minimum wage will increase to €9.15 from €8.65 per hour from January 1st next year.
