AIB says customers who have been accidentally double-charged will have the extra payment reversed by 2pm today.

The bank has apologised after debit card users were charged twice for the same transaction on Monday and Tuesday.

AIB is promising that no customer will be left out of pocket.

In a statement the bank says "AIB regrets any disruption to our customers this morning arising from duplicate transactions processed on their accounts. This issue arose after a file of debit card transactions was processed twice in error".

The bank also had a technical glitch last December, where customers were unable to withdraw money from ATMs of other banks for a time.

AIB said that was caused from an issue with a third-party service provider.
