Aer Arann is changing its corporate name to Stobart Air. The transition is to be completed by the end of this year. The carrier says this will mark the conclusion of the first phase of the its 'new beginning' strategy.

The airline will continue to operate under the Aer Lingus Regional brand as part of its franchise agreement with Aer Lingus.

Its Irish operations will continue to be based at Northwood in Santry, next to Dublin Airport.

It says the next phase of its strategy will focus on additional franchise partnerships, leveraging its connection with London Southend Airport and advancing growth with its other airport partners, including Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports.

Stobart Air hopes to double its passenger numbers within five years. Almost 1.2 million people travelled on Aer Arann last year, which employs 370 people.

Interim Chief Executive of Stobart Air, Sean Brogan, says it is a step forward in the growth strategy.
