HMV is re-opening on Grafton Street in Dublin with the creation of 35 new jobs. The new store will open in the old Awear premises, but an opening date has not been announced yet.

It will mean that HMV has re-opened seven shops across the country, as well as 37 joint HMV-Xtra-vision stores.

The announcement came today from HMV and Xtra-vision owners Hilco Capital.

Dublin City Business Improvement District (BID) has welcomed the news. Richard Guiney, CEO of Dublin City BID, said "The news that HMV is returning to Grafton Street is very welcomed as is the 35 jobs it will create. They have been sorely missed from the area".

"Vacancy rates in the city centre are now down to 9% from highs of 15.6% in 2010. These developments are a huge vote of confidence for Dublin City Centre" he added.

The group says that Grafton Street is now one of the highest occupancy streets in the BID area, with just five out of over 100 shops currently vacant.

It was announced last August that HMV was planning to reopen some of its outlets. The music and film retailer closed all 16 of its shops here last January after going into receivership.
