Investigations are continuing into the cause of a fire which claimed the lives of a woman and three young children in Clondalkin in Dublin yesterday.

27-year-old Annmarie O'Brien - who was seven months pregnant - died alongside her 2-year-old daughter Paris.

Their cousins - 3-year-old Holly and 4-year-old Jordan - were also killed in the blaze. Their mother Brigid O'Brien is still in a critical condition in hospital.

The building in question was being used as temporary accommodation for the victims of domestic abuse.

Forensic tests to establish the cause of the fire will be carried out at the first floor flat today, with experts attempting to identify whether or not an electrical fault led to the blaze.

Reporter Sean Defoe spoke to Newstalk Breakfast about the current activity at the scene.

"They are going in again to reexamine the apartment in question, and the other three apartments where three other families have had to be evacuated," he explained.

"From what I hear there is going to be an electrical engineer brought in as well, to examine if that was the cause of the fire."

Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Broin has been visiting the scene.

"To have any deaths in the community is obviously very, very sad," he said.

"But given the young age of these three children, and one of the mothers... it's just absolutely heartbreaking."
