A woman has died in a house fire in Clifden, County Galway.

Gardaí said the alarm was raised at around 7pm after the fire broke out at a house in Tullyvoheen.

Fire services attended the scene alongside gardaí and the fire was brought under control.

The remains of the woman – believed to be in her late 40s – were found inside the house.

Gardaí said foul play is not suspected at this time.

The scene is currently preserved for examination.
