Fianna Fáil is meeting for its parliamentary party think-in today in Carlow.

One of the party's TDs says he believes water charges are gone and will not come back.

Housing, credit availability for businesses, and the UK Brexit vote will be among the issues on the agenda at the meeting of TDs and Senators.

On Saturday, tens of thousands took part in a national demonstration in Dublin city calling for water charges to be abolished.

The charges were suspended by the Government earlier this year, pending the outcome of an expert commission.

However last week Minister Simon Coveney said that the way the water is paid for would have to change.

Fianna Fáil TD Thomas Byrne thinks water charges are gone for good.

While the party's spokesperson for public expenditure and reform says we have to come to terms with a hard border on the Island of Ireland between Europe and the UK.

Dara Calleary says we need to start planning for the realities of a Brexit.

He told the Pat Kenny Show here on Newstalk that the social and economic consequences of the UK exit from the European Union will be hard to ignore.

"One of the central arguments for those who wanted to leave the European Union was control of borders.

"Now all those that were proponents of that argument are saying their should be a soft border with the only open border with the European Union.

"I don't see any model where there's going to be a soft border...and that's going to make it incredibly difficult for us economically, but also socially."
